The Cornish Seal Sanctuary marked the official launch of a £1.3million fundraising campaign to futureproof the site for years to come with a special garden party on Thursday (1st September).

The event, sponsored by the innovative minerals exploration company Cornish Lithium, saw businesses from across Cornwall invited to learn about the ‘Fund Our Future’ project.

Part of significant plans to renovate the Sanctuary, which opened in Gweek back in 1975, this project will see the replacement and construction of four new pools – doubling the water volume across the site - with the installation of a state-of-the-art filtration system.

Fundraising Manager, Leanne Webb says: “It was such a joy to be able to share this vital new project with so many inspiring businesses from around the Duchy.

“We know that, as an established charity here in Cornwall, connecting with our local business community will be a big part of the success of this project to bring our dreams of a sustainable future to life.

“A huge thank you to everyone who joined us to hear about the opportunities to get involved and support the ‘Fund Our Future’ campaign.

“Our thanks also go to our incredibly supportive sponsors, Cornish Lithium, who were key in making this event such a success.”

Held at the charity’s stunning site on the Helford River, the event saw guests enjoy a VIP tour of the Sanctuary, as well as complimentary Cornish cream teas, prosecco and gin and tonics (kindly provided by Salcombe Gin Distillery and Navas Drinks).

Lucy Crane, ESG & Sustainability Manager for Cornish Lithium, says: “It was fantastic to see so many local businesses come out to support such a worthy cause.

“The work that the Cornish Seal Sanctuary does to educate and inspire generations to protect our seas and the wealth of marine life to be found within them is invaluable and Cornish Lithium is proud to be working with the Sanctuary to help it raise further funds to sustain its future and safeguard its important conservation programme.”
