To the Moon and Back for seals!

Clare and Char are a mum and daughter combo who are happiest under big skies beside the sea, seaglass collecting and seal spotting!

When not MoonSealing, they love beach walks and beachcombing - always collecting treasures for anything they make!

What was the inspiration behind MoonSeals?

The inspiration of MoonSeals came from wanting a creative outlet and a way to give back after falling in love with the Cornish Seal Sanctuary! We have been visiting for many years and have always found it incredibly inspiring so wanted to find a way we could support.

We have both had creative jobs in the past but necessity takes over (as it tends to!) and now our day jobs are decidedly 'unarty' leaving us craving a creative outlet.

During lockdown we took the plunge, and now we are coming up to our third Christmas! We wanted a name that would encompass our kinship with seals, our love of nature and all things celestial, hence MoonSeals was born!

We wish this was our day job, but we spend every spare moment, evenings and weekends on MoonSeals!

What is your connection to seals?

As a family we have visited The Cornish Seal Sanctuary for over 30 years and seen first-hand how special it is. Year on year we have been able to visit the Seal Sanctuary and watch how wonderfully the seals are cared for, as well as the home it provides for the seals that can’t be released.

The years we have spent seal spotting and visiting the seal sanctuary, will always hold a special place in our hearts. This love for seals, Cornwall and nature is what led us to ultimately start MoonSeals.

What is the creative process of a MoonSeals product?

It depends on the product, but our decorations and sealy gifts are all hand painted, making each seal individual with their own personality!

As a small business we are always looking for ways to explore different materials and to make sure our business is eco-friendly as possible, our seal tote bag is made from recycled cotton! We love being able to bring the unique MoonSeals magic into every one of our designs and products.

What does a day in the life of your business look like?

No day is the same for us! One day we could be painting plumpy seals in a moon and delicately drilling seaglass, the next social media planning and photographing our products!

What each day does guarantee is plenty of tea and chatting though! 😊

With every order via our Etsy shop we donate 10% to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary and we regularly gift and donate our products and provide freebies for the charity silent auction too!
